Changes in grease properties when mixed

The mixing of different greases in the use of grease is unavoidable, but it should be noted that the change in properties after mixing does not affect the use. When the sealed bearing is sealed with high-grade long-life grease at one time, it can prolong the life of the grease and prevent contamination, and avoid the trouble of regular grease, which is the most ideal. However, some bearings must also be open, and must be supplemented with grease according to regulations. In this case, the mixing of different greases is sometimes unavoidable. However, accidents due to mixing with grease that should not be replenished according to regulations are not uncommon. The properties of some different greases mixed with each other are not arithmetic additions as imagined, but unexpected performance changes occur, especially some performance is deteriorated. In order to grasp the changes during mixing and prevent deterioration accidents, it is necessary to bear in mind the changes and laws of the properties of several main common greases after mixing, so as to facilitate the lubrication work and give full play to the characteristics of the grease.
Performance changes of general soap base grease after mixing
(1) The grease is mixed with sodium, barium, and lithium-based grease, and the mixing will not have a bad effect on the performance, and may also improve its temperature resistance and durability. When 20%~40% of sodium-based frog fat was mixed, the dropping point decreased, and when 70% was mixed, the dropping point increased significantly.
(2) The influence of sodium-based grease mixed with 10% calcium, barium or lithium-based grease is very small, but when it is mixed with 20%, the effect is greater. There is little or no effect on performance when mixed with bentonite or silicone grease. Only when the mixing amount is large, the performance of mixing grease is shown. When the sodium-based grease is mixed with lithium-based grease to 50%, it shows a softening phenomenon, and it is still compatible when mixed with 75%.
(3) When lithium-based grease is mixed with about 10% of sodium-based or barium-based grease, its performance will be greatly affected, which is mainly manifested in lower dropping point and worse durability. However, when about 10% calcium-based grease is mixed, the performance effect is small. The effect when mixed with bentonite grease or silicone grease is slightly greater than when mixed with calcium-based grease.
(4) When barium-based grease is mixed with a small amount of sodium or lithium-based grease, its performance will also be affected. However, the effect is less when mixed with calcium-based grease or bentonite or silicone grease.
(5) Bentonite grease and silica gel have little effect when mixed with each other.
