The role and requirements of damping grease

Damping grease is a type of grease that plays a dual role of damping and lubrication between two friction surfaces. Damping grease is used in potentiometers, resistors, inductors, slow-opening mechanisms of tape recorders, and certain instruments and optical instruments in electronic components.
Take a potentiometer as an example. The potentiometer plays the role of adjusting current, voltage, volume, tone, grayscale (brightness), color saturation and fine-tuning in the whole machine. Operators hope to have a soft and comfortable damping feeling when rotating or sliding, and do not want to have a bad feeling such as roughness, stumbling, and over-slipping. This is a very important quality indicator of potentiometers - feel. In order to ensure a comfortable feel, all kinds of potentiometers have made strict regulations on the rotation or sliding torque and its stability. In addition, there are noise, withstand voltage, insulation resistance and other indicators.
The surface finish of the contact mechanism of the potentiometer is very high. If the damping grease is not applied, there will not be enough damping, and it will also cause wear. Damping grease forms a thick film on the surface of the contact mechanism, isolating the two moving surfaces and preventing frictional wear. The internal frictional resistance of the grease causes damping and makes the hand feel good.
Basic requirements for damping grease:
①The higher viscosity can meet the specified rotational or sliding torque requirements.
②Good viscosity-temperature properties, can be used in a wide temperature range (high temperature can reach 70 ℃, low temperature requirements -10 ~ -45 ℃), can adapt to hot and cold weather, will not damp too much when used in summer or in tropical areas It is small, and it will not damp too much in winter or used in cold regions, or even freeze and cannot rotate.
③Excellent colloidal stability, no oil separation during use, causing pollution of related parts.
④Low evaporation and long service life.
⑤It has good corrosion resistance, does not corrode the metal in the used part, and has good compatibility with related plastic parts.
⑥Good adhesion, easy to apply.
⑦Good lubricity.
